Comhardu
Comhardu is a gentle Irish word meaning balance—a guiding principle at the heart of therapy. It reflects the journey toward inner steadiness, emotional harmony, and a more grounded sense of self. In therapy, Comhardu reminds us that healing often comes not from fixing, but from finding balance—between past and present, thoughts and feelings, self and others.
About Me
My name is Fidelma Heeney, I have over a decade of experience as a psychotherapist supporting adults facing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, including stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma. My work is grounded in a compassionate, reflective, and non-judgmental approach — creating a safe and supportive space where clients can explore, heal, and grow.
My therapeutic approach is primarily psychodynamic, which means I help clients explore how early life experiences, unconscious processes, and relationship patterns may be shaping their current thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. By bringing these influences into awareness, we can work together toward meaningful and lasting change.
In addition to one-to-one psychotherapy, I facilitate Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) groups — an evidence-based program widely regarded as the gold standard in mindfulness training. Mindfulness is a core element of my practice, helping clients cultivate greater self-awareness, emotional resilience, and presence in their everyday lives.
The name of my practice, Comhardu, is the Irish word meaning balance — a concept that sits at the very heart of my work. For me, balance is not a fixed state, but something we return to over and over again, especially in times of difficulty. The word Comhardu reflects both my personal and professional understanding of what healing often involves: the courage to pause, reflect, and gently reconnect with a more grounded sense of self.
I hold a BA (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy, MSc in Mindfulness-Based Interventions, and a Diploma in Social Studies. I am an accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), the Mindfulness Teachers Association of Ireland (MTAI), and I am fully professionally insured. I am committed to continuing professional development, ethical practice, and personal integrity.
Whether you're facing a specific difficulty or seeking deeper self-understanding, my aim is to offer a grounded, professional, and caring therapeutic environment where you can feel heard, understood, and empowered.
